Moreton Bay Sets New Record for International Tourism Growth

28 October 2025: The Moreton Bay region has emerged as one of Queensland’s fastest growing tourism regions, contributing significantly to the state’s record-breaking year for international visitation.

The most recent Tourism Research Australia data confirms in 2024–25, international visitors spent more than 2.3 million nights in the region – an increase of over 426,000 nights on the previous year and 22.7% above the region’s previous record.

The growth comes off the back of strong investment and positive sentiment towards the region, driven by an increase in travellers holidaying, studying, and visiting family and friends and three five star hotel development announcements in recent months.

International holiday visitor nights surged by 57%, with Moreton Bay helping to power Queensland’s $3.5 billion in international holiday visitor spending.

Tourism & Events Moreton Bay CEO Luke Edwards said the data reinforces the region’s emergence as a serious contender in Queensland’s visitor economy.

“Moreton Bay is one of the state’s most exciting growth stories,” Edwards said.

“Our proximity to Brisbane, diversity of experiences and genuine local hospitality are driving strong results. We continue to work closely with local businesses and tourism operators to mature their offering and strengthen distribution across domestic and key international markets. The positive feedback we’re receiving from global travel partners, and the results reflected in this data, confirm Moreton Bay’s visitor appeal is growing rapidly on the world stage,” he added.

“We’re seeing clear evidence that our investment in destination marketing and industry development is paying off. With Brisbane 2032 on the horizon, Moreton Bay is in prime position to continue this trajectory and attract even more international visitors,” says Edwards.

This week, several Moreton Bay tourism operators are in Perth representing the region at the Australian Tourism Export Council Awards and again mid-November at the Queensland Tourism Awards. In late November, a new marketing campaign to promote the region’s proximity to Brisbane Airport will roll out nationally.
