Jetty2Jetty Breaks Records with First-Ever Marathon

14 July 2025: The Jetty2Jetty Fun Run officially kicked off this morning, with more than 5,000 participants lacing up for one of Queensland’s most scenic seaside fun runs, marking a historic milestone in the event’s 39-year legacy.

For the first time, the event introduced a full marathon, expanding beyond the traditional 3km, 5km, 10km and half marathon distances. The new 42.2km course traced the Moreton Bay foreshore from Clontarf to Scarborough, offering sweeping ocean views and community support every step of the way.

Across all categories, runners collectively clocked up over 59,000 kilometres – the equivalent of running from Brisbane to Berlin and back or, doing the City2Surf 3,000 times!

Visit Moreton Bay CEO Luke Edwards said the launch of the marathon distance had taken the much loved event to new heights.

“Jetty2Jetty has always been a standout on the local calendar, and introducing a full marathon this year has made it a truly world-class event. More than 5,000 people embraced our morning culture in Moreton Bay by soaking up the morning sun along the waterfront.”

Participants came from across Queensland, interstate and overseas, including the United Kingdom, United States, New Zealand and Canada, which is a testament to the growing international appeal of the event.

Edwards said the event wasn’t just about race day – it was about the whole weekend experience.

“People are coming for the race, but they’re staying to soak up everything the region has to offer – from record-breaking whale watching tours departing Redcliffe Jetty, to fresh farm gate produce and hands-on agritourism experiences in the hinterland. And after a run like this morning’s, there’s no better way to refuel than with freshly caught seafood at one of our many waterfront pubs and restaurants.”

Adding to the excitement, United Airlines, who fly direct from Brisbane Airport to the US, rewarded the top marathon runners with return tickets to San Francisco.

“It’s just another example of how major partners and tourism operators are coming together to elevate the Moreton Bay experience,” Edwards said. “This region has so much to offer – and events like Jetty2Jetty demonstrate we’re a destination worth running towards.”
