Challenges and Opportunities Ahead for Sunshine Coast Businesses, says Expert

28 October 2025: As flexible work, AI-driven hiring tools and shifting employee expectations continue to reshape the way Australians work, one Sunshine Coast consultancy is marking 20 years of helping local businesses adapt.

HRM, founded by recruitment specialist Sally Desch, is celebrating two decades in business this week – a milestone that reflects both the firm’s longevity and the Sunshine Coast’s evolving employment landscape which is expected to add another 100,000 new jobs by 2041*.

“Workplaces are evolving faster than ever before,” Sally said. “Flexibility, technology, and shifting employee expectations are reshaping how businesses attract and retain great people — and that creates opportunities for those businesses willing to adapt.”

Over the past two decades, HRM has transformed from a traditional recruitment agency into a full-service HR consultancy, offering outsourced HR solutions, leadership development, and strategic workforce planning. The evolution mirrors the region’s transformation into one of Australia’s fastest-growing economic hubs, projected to add more than 100,000 new jobs by 2041*.

Sally says the Sunshine Coast’s business community is entering an era of potential and growth.

“The upcoming 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, population growth, and investment across industries are driving incredible demand for talent. It’s an exciting time to be in business here.”

While sectors such as hospitality, administration, and accounting remain in high demand, Sally believes collaboration and community are key to addressing skills shortages. “We’ve always believed in local businesses supporting local talent – and that’s where the Coast really shines.”

Reflecting on HRM’s journey, Sally recalls how recruitment has evolved. “When we started in 2005, job ads were in newspapers and resumes came by post. Now we’re connecting with top talent nationwide within minutes. The change has been extraordinary – but what hasn’t changed is our commitment to people.”

HRM’s continued success is built on relationships, not transactions. “We’re proud to have grown alongside so many incredible local businesses,” Sally said. “Our mission has always been simple — to help people and organisations thrive.”
