Brisbane Roar return to Moreton Bay for blockbuster summer fixtures

16 December 2025: Moreton Bay’s Kayo Stadium will host two major A-League Men clashes this summer, with the Brisbane Roar set to take on the Wellington Phoenix on Friday, 3 January and Saturda,y 7 February in Redcliffe.

The double-header is expected to draw strong trans-Tasman interest, with strong numbers of New Zealand travellers continuing to choose Queensland for their summer holidays. With Kiwi visitation already surging, Tourism & Events Moreton Bay anticipates a significant influx of Phoenix supporters adding Kayo Stadium to their travel itineraries.

Adding to the excitement, Roar fans will be cheering on James McGarry – the Kiwi defender who previously played for Wellington Phoenix before signing with Brisbane in 2025. McGarry’s return to face his former club on Moreton Bay turf is set to be a major drawcard for both local spectators and travelling New Zealand fans.

Tourism & Events Moreton Bay CEO Luke Edwards said the region is ready to welcome Roar fans, Phoenix supporters, and summer holidaymakers alike.

“Kayo Stadium has become a high-energy home for A-League fixtures, and these matches arrive at a time when New Zealand visitation is at an all-time high. With thousands of Kiwis travelling to Queensland over summer, we expect strong trans-Tasman support in the stands,” Edwards said.

“Moreton Bay continues to grow as a sporting destination. Hosting top-tier football reinforces our position as Brisbane’s playground – just up the road, easy to access, and offering visitors a memorable match-day experience alongside beaches, waterways, and outstanding hospitality.”

Both fixtures form part of a packed summer program in Moreton Bay, with tourism operators reporting increased demand from families and multi-generational travellers – a trend echoed across the region’s key international markets.

Zac Anderson, Chief Operations Officer at Brisbane Roar said: “Brisbane Roar is excited to be returning to the Moreton Bay region for two matchdays across the summer, beginning with our double-header at Kayo Stadium on 3 January.

“We’re looking forward to bringing professional football back to the region and seeing Kayo Stadium filled with local fans wearing orange when we kick things off next month.”

Tickets for both matches are available through the Brisbane Roar website and regular A-League outlets. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and make a day of their visit, exploring Redcliffe’s foreshore, dining precincts, and family-friendly attractions just minutes from Kayo Stadium.
