17 June 2026: Major infrastructure works are underway at the Eumundi Markets precinct, with crews on site delivering a significant drainage upgrade designed to address longstanding flooding issues and protect one of Queensland’s most significant tourism assets.
The project, which is expected to take a further six to eight weeks to complete, weather permitting, will replace ageing drainage infrastructure and improve water management across the site, helping ensure the continued operation of the world-famous markets for decades to come.
Experience Eumundi General Manager Mark Cameron said the works represent an important investment in the future of a destination that attracts around 1.2 million visitors each year and generates $54 million in annual visitor expenditure.
“While visitors come to Eumundi for the atmosphere, creativity and unique experiences, there is a significant amount of infrastructure working behind the scenes to support that experience,” Mr Cameron said.
“These works may not be the most visible investment we make, but they are among the most important. Upgrading the site’s drainage network will help address historical flooding challenges and improve the long-term resilience of the markets.”
The upgrade follows the release of an independent economic impact report which identified the Eumundi Markets as one of South East Queensland’s most significant tourism and economic assets, supporting more than 1,000 jobs and contributing millions of dollars to the regional economy each year.
Mr Cameron said investing in critical infrastructure was essential to protecting the future of the markets and the economic benefits they deliver to the wider region.
“The recent report reinforced just how important the markets are to the Sunshine Coast visitor economy,” he said.
“Projects like this ensure we continue to invest in the infrastructure needed to support visitors, stallholders and the local community, while preserving the experience that has made Eumundi a must-visit destination for generations.”
The Eumundi Markets will continue operating throughout the construction period.
Ends.
