Mayoral Ball Raises Vital Funds for SunnyKids

27 October 2025: The SunnyKids Mayoral Ball has once again proven to be the Sunshine Coast’s most inspiring night of celebration and generosity, raising $70,000 to support local children and families experiencing domestic and family violence and hardship.

Held on Saturday night in Machjet International’s new purpose-built hangar at Sunshine Coast Airport, the sold-out gala was the first major event to be hosted in the state-of-the-art facility. More than 300 guests gathered beneath the wings of luxury aircraft for an unforgettable evening of fine dining, entertainment and community spirit.

SunnyKids CEO Kathleen Hope said the event exceeded all expectations – both in its unique new setting and the generosity shown by the community.

“The atmosphere was absolutely electric. To see the hangar transformed into such an elegant venue and to witness so many people united for one purpose – it was truly moving,” said Hope.

“Every dollar raised will go directly towards helping local children and families who need our support most. We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended, donated and made the night such a success.”

Ms Hope said the funds come at a particularly important time of year, with reports of domestic and family violence typically surging in the lead-up to Christmas.

“This is the most challenging period for many families we support. Financial stress, isolation and heightened emotions can all increase the risk of violence in the home,” she said.

“The money raised through the Mayoral Ball will ensure we can respond quickly when families reach out for help and provide safe accommodation, counselling and care throughout the festive season.”

The evening featured a thought-provoking keynote address from acclaimed journalist and author Madonna King, along with live music, an auction and heartfelt stories that highlighted the life-changing work of SunnyKids.

Now in its ninth year, the SunnyKids Mayoral Ball continues to be one of the region’s most anticipated events, uniting local leaders, businesses and residents to create brighter futures for Sunshine Coast families.
